- The European project concluded its presence at the Malaga forum, consolidating its circular coffee economy model before companies, investors, and public administrations
- During the three-day event, the consortium forged strategic alliances at Stand A3, highlighting meetings with investment funds such as Sicloo Circular Ventures
- Juanma Revuelta (CEO of Finnova) presented the keys to scaling ECOFFEE’s technology through the LIFE Programme
Malaga, March 2, 2026. The European project ECOFFEE, funded by the Horizon Europe programme through the CIRCULOOS ecosystem, has concluded its successful participation at Transfiere 2026. Following three intense exhibition days held last week, the consortium makes a highly positive assessment of its meeting agenda, networking, and visibility at the leading European forum for science, technology, and innovation.
The highlight of the participation took place on Wednesday, February 25, at the Research Center area (Green Tech session), where Juanma Revuelta, CEO of the Finnova Foundation and project partner, presented the model to the innovation ecosystem. Under the title «ECOFFEE: From Waste to Strategic Resource», Revuelta demonstrated how spent coffee grounds—a waste generated daily in large volumes by the HORECA and Vending sectors—can cease to be an environmental problem and become new high-value bioproducts.
A European model to turn waste into opportunity
During the pitch, the main technological and operational breakthroughs achieved by the consortium were highlighted:
- Optimization of reverse logistics: Leveraging Euskovazza’s existing networks for efficient waste collection.
- Development of bioproducts: Transforming the grounds into animal feed ingredients (led by AZTI) and natural biocides (developed by FumiHogar).
- Digital traceability: Using European tools from the CIRCULOOS ecosystem (such as RAMP and GRETA) to validate carbon footprint reduction and connect supply with demand.
- Financial scalability: Finnova highlighted the real opportunities to replicate this technology in municipalities and companies through the LIFE Programme, which offers non-repayable grants for climate mitigation projects.
Three days of synergies and strategic networking
Beyond the official presentation, the true value of Transfiere 2026 resided in the uninterrupted activity at Stand A3 (Finnova Foundation’s space). During the three-day forum, representatives of the project partners held key meetings to ensure the future commercialization and exploitation of the results.
A prime example of these connections occurred on the closing day, when Carlos Ramos, Operations Manager at FumiHogar, and the Finnova team explored investment and circular economy synergies with José Calero and Roberto Vélez, partners at the Sicloo Circular Ventures fund. These interactions confirm the growing interest of private capital in real solutions that advance towards #ZeroWaste production models.
About ECOFFEE
ECOFFEE has a budget of €256,451.25, co-funded by the European Union through the Horizon Europe programme (Grant Agreement CIRCULOOS No. 101092295). The consortium is formed by AZTI, Euskovazza, FumiHogar, and the Finnova Foundation. Its goal is to demonstrate a comprehensive model for the valorization of spent coffee grounds through innovative technologies and digital traceability.
